Steve Hackett of Genesis Interview Show Even those who aren't aware of the progressive sounds of early Genesis should know that this was the vehicle whereby the likes of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins spread their hit-bound wings. Steve Hackett joined two albums in on 1971's "Nursery Cryme," replacing guitarist Anthony Phillips and introducing a host of new and imaginative guitar sounds to the band, including the "tapping" technique which Eddie Van Halen adopted upon seeing Genesis live. After four albums, in 1975 Hackett took a solo turn with a stunningly creative debut, "Voyage of the Acolyte," and then continued on with Genesis until 1977 for two more LPs, which now featured Collins on vocals due to Gabriel's departure. The solo albums by Hackett from the '70s until today (2019's "At the Edge of Light") are marked by the inventive construction of pieces influenced by world musics, as well as classical and rock.
