Salvaging the Aborted Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge/Cactus) Interview from the November 5th Show
**This interview show was originally scheduled for Nov. 5th. Technical problems caused the interview itself to fail that day...so we instead played all Carmine-related music. For this show, we have the interview and a few song dupes...the classics...but we are mixing things up a bit.** The heavy symphonics and dirge-like, keyboard and vibrato-laden psych pop of Vanilla Fudge in the late '60s is said to be one of the progenitors of the heavy metal and prog genres. Most of us know them by their irresistible cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" from 1967. After five albums they broke up in 1969. Bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice next formed hard blues rock band Cactus for another four albums, and then had a stint with stunning guitarist Jeff Beck in Beck, Bogert and Appice. After a brief aside with KGB (also featuring Bloomfield, Goldberg and Grech), it was onto Rod Stewart...and yes, it's true, Carmine co-wrote "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy." I have forgiven him.
