Jericho Brown’s third volume of poetry, “The Tradition,” won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for poetry. This poem was written last June, after the NY Times Book Review asked him to write an original poem responding to the current historic moment.
Written in Berkeley in 1955, read in his NYC apartment in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
