"Knight first achieved minor fame by winning Ted Mack's The Original Amateur Hour TV show contest at the age of eight in 1952. That same year, Gladys, her brother Bubba, sister Brenda, and their cousins Eleanor and William Guest began performing together during Bubba's tenth birthday party after a record player malfunctioned.. After recording the tune, the group headed from Los Angeles back to Detroit. While in their car, Bubba Knight -- Gladys' older brother and one of the Pips -- recounted that they continued singing the song and decided to to return to the studio to add more to the background, and Gladys redid her lead vocal. Knight has a life of perserverence. She's been married four times and has three children. At 16, she became pregnant and married Atlanta musician and classmate James _Jimmy_ Newman in 1960.She had a miscarriage; the couple went on to have two children. Newman became a drug addict and abandoned the family when Knight was 20. She later suffered through a gambling addiction....in the late 1980s, after losing $60,000 in one night at the baccarat table, she joined Gamblers Anonymous, which helped her quit the habit. Chris Connor was born Mary Loutsenhizer in Kansas City, Missouri, to Clyde Loutsenhizer and Mabel Shirley. She became proficient on the clarinet, having studied for eight years during middle school and high school. She sang with the college band at the University of Missouri,before stepping into vocalizing, first with Claude THorhill's band. She went on to release nearly 3 dozen discs before passing away in Toms River, NJ where she'd lived with her manager and partner of 47 years, Lori Muscarelle. Her obituary was, reportedly the first public acknowledgement of her lesbianism. "

He retired to Plymouth MA in 1950. The Symphony in D minor is the best-known orchestral work and the only mature symphony written by the 19th-century composer César Franck. The work is unusual in being in three, rather than the traditional four, movements. Its unclear how Gray settled on performing this arrangement.
