"I captured this moment on my iPhone listening on a table top radio to the local station here in Friday Harbor, WA (where I am recording this show). The station is located in Sequim, WA (pronounced Squim) and is not really local at all, but located across the fast & wide Strait de Juan de Fuaca. The signal bounces off the water and comes in loud and clear on this distant island. "
"Eloy is a German progressive rock band, whose musical style includes symphonic and space rock, the latter tendency being more prevalent on earlier albums. The name Eloy is based on the futurist race of humans from the book The Time Machine by H. G. Wells.. They are time travellers. Despite their nationality and time period, the band is not generally considered krautrock because of their sound, which has much more in common with English progressive rock and symphonic rock groups such as Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, and Camel (Wikipedia)"
"I saw Siberry in concert at the Somerville Theater around the time of this release, which was her most popular release internationally (and my favorite). It was a transcendent experience, that concert -- she was at the top of her game (as the expression goes). I went out to the lobby afterward where she was greeting people. I remember she wore a pink sweater and had what seemed like a body guard...a man standing very close to her, protectively. She seemed quite vulnerable, and seemed to pull back when I asked a question about her song, _The Vigil._ Years passed, and I went to see her again at Passim. She'd been through changes...adopting the persona Issa for a time, and recording several releases under that name before returning to _Jane Siberry._ Passim was quite intimate, small crowed. She talked to us, asked what we wanted to hear. She was transfixng, but subdued. She greeted people at the door on the way out and when I stood before her, I asked if I could hug her. She said, _yes,_ and I did. As we pulled apart she said, _that was a good hug._ And it was. "
"A.C. Marias was the name under which Wire collaborator Angela Conway The song was described by Simon Reynolds and Joy Press as _perhaps the ultimate expression of a female desire to be invisible_, while Conway described the song's theme as _saying enough's enough...to be not present can be more powerful than actually being present and proclaiming your identity as 'woman'_ (wikipedia)"
"This considered by some to be oe of Cherry's most orginal albums. Recorded at Studio Caroline, a hotbed for the African diaspora in Paris during the 80s, and produced by French-Chilean musician and producer Ramuntcho Matta. Matta is one of the true architects of that 1980s Paris sound mixing music from all over the Planet with the street vibe of the French capital. He had spent his formative years in Paris and then switched to New York, where he lived between 1978 and 1980, interacting with the cream of the Downtown scene, including Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk, Peter Gordon, Arto Lindsay, The Talking Heads and many more. - wiki"

"This song, which has been covered by many artists, was written by MacColl for his wife Peggy Seeger -- Pete's sister -- who was the first to record it. Peggy appeared live iTMOTO in 2002. It was shortly after my mother died. I told her that her music was the accompaniment to my mother in her final days, esp her song _The Joy of Living._ We talked for a while longer and, to close the show, she sang it _for Eleanor,_ my mother (who was a good mother). Cash chose to sing it on the 4th of a series of album releases that were the last beforee her died... some consider this collection to be his finest work towards the end of his life. "
