Negativland performed “It’s All In Your Head FM” – which they called theatre of the mind, and “a densely layered examination of monotheism , in all its worldwide forms” – at The Middle East in Central Square, Cambridge on August 1st, 2007, and was broadcast near-live on WMBR, with only a half-mile delay.
Recorded in NYC on August 3, 1936. This recording was adopted by legendary WNEW (New York) disc jockey Martin Block as the theme song for his “Make Believe Ballroom” radio program, which has been broadcast almost continuously since 1935. And now a podcast!
Open Air was a series of audio artworks by five artists, broadcast to mark the launch of Open – a collaborative open call for ideas by Artangel and BBC Radio 4. Each artist was given three minutes of airtime right after the 9 AM news. At a time when listeners would not be expecting to experience an audio artwork, the airwaves were disrupted each day of a working week. At 11am on the Saturday that followed, there was an omnibus broadcast featuring all five pieces plus interviews with the artists. The first in a series of audio interventions for BBC Radio 4. Christian Marclay's Open Air work is a montage of BBC Radio 4 voices. More on the Open Initiative: https://www.artangel.org.uk/project/open-air/
