Carla Bley (1936-2023) was an American jazz composer, pianist, organist, singer and bandleader. She passed away this week. Escalator Over The Hill was a jazz opera (they called it a "chronotransduction") with words by poet Paul Haines, adaptation and music by Carla Bley, production and coordination by Michael Mantler, performed by the Jazz Composer's Orchestra (which was founded by Carla Bley and Michael Mantler in 1965).
"Echo of the Low Light is an independent collective of rotating Pacific Northwest artists experimenting with an aleatoric (“throw of the dice”) approach to creating pop-noir akin to Beach House, Still Corners, and David Lynch."
"More unlistenable and surreal noise from The Sinatra Test. It's like David Lynch crashed into David Byrne on the highway and they both laughed but decided never to speak of it ever again."
An adaptation of the play by Harold Pinter. Composed by Michael Mantler, produced by Carla Bley, featuring Carla Bley (Voice, Piano, Organ), Robert Wyatt (Voice, Percussion), Kevin Coyne (Voice), Ron McClure (Acoustic Bass), Chris Spedding (Guitar) and
Clare Maher (Cello).
