T"he Battle of Brisbane" was a riot with United States military personnel on one side, and Australian servicemen and civilians on the other, in Brisbane, Queensland Australian's capital city, on November 26-27, 1942, when the two nations were allies. By the time the violence ended, one Australian soldier was dead and hundreds of Australians and U.S. servicemen were injured.
This was a fund-raiser for assorted charities associated with the Hillsborough disaster in Sheffield, England. It featuring a number of Big Names: Shane MacGOWEN, Gerry Marsden (Gerry & The Pacemakers), Glenn Tillbrook (Squeeze), and some guy named "McCartney" :)). Two members of The Hollies were on this (Tony Hicks {guitar}, Bobby Elliot {drummer} // * - Although The Hollies had the big hit, later that year (Elton John was the pianist on their recording ....)
